Title :
"The Dynamics of Expert Decision Making: An Analysis of Air Traffic Control"

Abstract :

Various scholars (e.g., Connolly, Hogarth) have commented that little is know about the dynamics of decision making. This presentation will explore three aspects of dynamic decision making. The first involves longitudinal development of decision-making skill. The second concerns assessment of decisions in a dynamic (ever-changing) task -- air traffic control (ATC). The third aspect is the unexpected finding that dynamic assessments may predict ATC errors before they occur. This research has implications for theories of ATC, decision making, expertise, selection, training, and evaluation.
